Epson has created a campaign for the Japanese New Year that allows users to create an augmented reality greeting card print it out on an Epson Colorio printer and then have an augmented reality experience by placing the greeting card in front of a web camera and the users face appears in the AR experience along with other customizations.
The end of the year greeting cards in Japan called “nengajo” are a tradition in the country. Though the Epson Colorio printer is only available in Japan for aproximately $600. The Epson Colorio printer is a postcard specific printer.
It is interesting to note how once again the use of AR is being introduced in marketing initiatives to differentiate a product.
